The Plan: Build a Separate Hwy 36 Bikeway
The North Foothills Bikeway will create a safe, separated route between Boulder and Lyons along US 36. Boulder County’s plan divides the corridor into four segments, beginning with the critical section from Broadway to Longhorn Road. Coalition4Cyclists is working to help move this vision forward and build community and financial support for completing the corridor.
Why Hwy 36 Needs a Safer Bikeway
More than 52,000 cyclists travel US 36 between Boulder and Lyons each year. Yet cyclists and pedestrians currently share this busy corridor with motor vehicles. From 2015 through 2024, Boulder County recorded 18 crashes involving cyclists and pedestrians along the corridor, resulting in 6 fatalities and 13 injuries. A separated bikeway would provide a safer, more comfortable connection between Boulder and Lyons.

What the North Foothills Bikeway Will Provide
The North Foothills Bikeway will provide a dedicated, separated route for people biking and walking between Boulder and Lyons. The project will improve safety along US 36 while creating better connections to neighborhoods, trails and popular cycling routes throughout the North Foothills corridor. Once completed, it will become an important part of Boulder County’s regional transportation network
